Just a quick note...

Happy Monday, all! I wanted to take a moment and thank everyone for their enthusiastic support of The Dewey Tree project. It absolutely warms my heart to be a part of the book blogging community.

I've heard from a number of folks who donated books just prior to the project announcement, or donated and didn't want to take pics and look all stalkery at City Hall, or who may not be comfortable taking and submitting pics. I understand! And I am amending the tote bag giveaway so that it does not require the submission of a pic for entry. I would still love to see and share your images if you have them, though!

Also, Cheryl had the wonderful idea of writing 'In Memory of Dewey' inside the front cover of each donated book.

So if you are participating, I will use this list as the entry list. Just head there, list your name, what you donated and where! If you have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to contact me. I'm always happy to hear from you!

If you have participated in The Dewey Project by donating books, then enter now for the custom tote drawing! Leave a comment below briefly stating what you donated and where (feel free to use links to your organization). This will count as your entry, plus bring awareness to others who may want to give, but need suggestions or inspiration to do so.

If you do have pics of your donation, please send them to me (onlinepublicist [AT] gmail [DOT] com) and I will happily feature it on my blog.

The Dewey Tree

It seems as though everyone is in a little bit of a book funk lately. Whether you're feeling overwhelmed with review copies, overwhelmed with life, holidays, shopping, or just feeling a bit unfulfilled by what you've read lately, I understand where you're coming from! I haven't taken on recent pubs lately, instead planning for projects that will pub early next year. No worries. I'm here to look out for you. :-P

I've also taken a little bit of a break. Doing enough work not to let my clients down and using the additional time to immerse myself in some other projects. I'm a sewer (one who sews, not a channel for human waste. heteronyms = fun), so it's been purses and totes all over the place!

To get us through this, I thought about hosting a book swap, but I feel the problem is we're weighed down with too many books. Not having enough to read doesn't appear to be the problem! So in the spirit of the giving season, why don't we clean some shelves out instead? I know it's difficult to give up your books, but think about the people who really need them.

As I write this, I think of a favorite blogger who passed away this time last year. Her spirit lives on in the Dewey Read-a-Thon, Weekly Geeks, and The Bookworms Carnival. She loved reading. She loved books. She supported Banned Books Week and believed everyone had the right to reading material. In her honor, I'm calling this donation project The Dewey Tree. It's a little bit The Giving Tree, a little bit Dewey, a little bit charity. :-D

Here's what you do:
*Gather up the books you can live without. It can be 4 books, 10 books, or 20 books!
*Find a worthy group you would like to donate your overflow books to. It can be your local library, a literacy campaign (mine will go to the literacy center I volunteer for), or overseas. There's a great list of book donation sites here on the ALA. Find a charity that speaks to you!
*Then take a picture of your donation and email it to me (onlinepublicist [AT] gmail [DOT] com). It can be a pic of the mailing label on your package, one of your kids giving a box of books to a librarian, or you handing books over to your literacy center. Be creative and have fun!

I will accept pics (and will post favorites) until January 4, 2010. At that time, I will enter the names of all who sent donation pics into Random.org and choose three. ***AMENDED: PLEASE GO HERE TO ENTER FOR THE GIVEAWAY*** Those three winners will receive custom made totes from me! I will email you pics of my available fabric and have you build one you like. The pic above is of two I made recently.

catching up & a new interview question

I've had a lot going on lately and the blog's been a tad dormant the past couple weeks. So sorry for that! I miss reading and responding to comments and I'm eager to get back to it.

So I want to kick this off with a new question! I loved the responses to the 'Title Your Life' post and can't wait to see what you come up with for this one:

If you were a character in a book, would you rather be a memorable bad girl/boy, or an unremarkable good girl/boy?

I've thought on this one ever since I posed it during the blogger interview I hosted for BBAW. For some reason, I keep thinking of whether I would rather be Sookie or Pam from the Sookie Stackhouse Series. Hmm... Bill Compton is a great bonus to being Sookie, but Pam has such great one liners, a cool exterior, AND is part owner of Fangtasia (which is just an awesome name). I might be leaning toward Pam here. I guess it's memorable bad girl for me after all! ;-P

Title your life

Recently, I conducted an interview with a book blogger as part of BBAW. That interview is here.

I worked really hard to come up with interesting, fun questions for it and was pretty happy with the questions I posed. In fact, I liked them so much, I would love to hear what all of you have to say in response to them. So I will be working on a series where I 'interview' you!

First up: If you were writing a book about your life, what would the title be?

This is tough for me. I come up with titles for things all the time! I come up with chapter titles for memorable encounters, titles for groups of short stories, and even captions for pictures.

There are so many stories that represent a variety of different points in my life. But the one that I keep coming back to is a book I would like to title: I Was a 25-Year-Old Sorority Girl.

And what would yours be?
